Honey Sriracha Tofu

While tofu is a very common and irreplaceable ingredient when it comes to vegetarian meals in Vietnamese cuisine, it is not that popular in Western countries . A lot of food bloggers have been discussing and coming up with a bunch of fresh and new tofu recipes at different level of complexity. So that's why today I suggest a handmade Honey Sriracha Tofu a simplest one that just takes seconds to prepare. It also helps improving our health.

Ingredient:
14 ounce block House Foods medium firm tofu
1 clove garlic minced
2 tablespoons sriracha sauce
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 1/2 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
2 tablespoons potato starch or corn starch for dusting
2 tablespoons vegetable oil or other neutral oil
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon sesame seeds
1 scallion finely chopped (optional)
Instructions:
1. Press the tofu with several layers of paper towel to remove as much water as possible. cut the tofu into 1/2-inch slabs and press with paper towels again. Alternatively, you can dice the tofu into 1-inch cubes.
2. All sides of the tofu gets covered with a layer of corn starch.

3. For the sauce, whisk garlic, soy sauce, sriracha, honey and rice vinegar in a small bowl.

4. Heat oil in a medium large saucepan over high heat and add tofu cubes. Fry on each side for 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Be careful when you fry the tofu because if you touch or toss it too much that will be break down.
5. Add sauce and gently coat tofu cubes. Cook for 3 minutes.
6. Turn the heat off and add sesame oil and sesame seeds.

7. Stir once more to evenly coat tofu cubes and serve topped with scallions.

This is the first time I combine all the 4 tastes including salty, sour, sweet and spicy. Honey sriracha sauce is such a great combination of these ingredients with the crispiness of tofu covered by corn starch which also helps enhance flavour of the sauce. All the ingredients of the dish are easy to find in most supermarket, which help you not waste too much time to find ingredients. I just take 15 minutes to make this meal that will be added on my speedy meal. For me, a spicy lover I highly recommend this dish for people who have same passion with me.
